In the 11th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Bangladesh, and New Zealand clashed. Bangladesh ended their 50-over quota with a score of 245, but in reply, Kiwis easily chased down the total with the beautiful knocks of skipper Kane Wiliamson and Daryl Mitchell.
While chasing a small target, Daryl Mitchell played an important part with his bat. The chasing team was scoring slowly. Few wickets from that stage could have created problems for Kiwis, but Daryl Mitchell played an ashtonishing knock of 89 in just 67 at a strike rate of 132.84. He crafted this inning with the help of four skyrocketing sixes and six fours.
Skipper Kane Williamson returned to the team to do his job with the bat, which he often does. He also contributed with his 78-run knock, but he had to leave the field due to a slight injury.
Daryl Mitchell reduced pressure from Kane Williamson.
The speciality of his brilliant knock was that he never let the run rate up. He also reduced pressure on the skipper, who was running at a slow pace. When he came to the crease, a partnership was needed, and the middle-order batter shared a match-winning stand with his skipper. He attacked bowlers, took off run rate down, and also helped Kane play his game at the other end.
Review of the match
Bangladesh batted first at MA Chidambaram Stadium; their opening batters went very early back to the dressing room. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and skipper Shakib shared a little stand; Mushfiqur Rahim was the top scorer for the batting team with 66 in 75 balls. In the last overs, Mahmudullah provided a nice finishing touch with his 41 runs, and Bangladesh ended their inning with 245 runs on the board.
While chasing Kiwis got a solid little start from openers, young Rachin Ravindra was caught by Mustafizur in his follow-through. Devon Conway could not get his half century and fell just five runs short. A partnership between Mitchell and Williamson took the game away from the defending team with eight wickets to spare.
