IND vs AFG ICC World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma’s flourishing ton stuns Afghanistan

In the 9th match of the ICC World Cup 2023, an IND vs AFG clash took place, with a lot of cricketing to be assumed, but Rohit Sharma’s cracking century never let that fight happen. While chasing 273 Indian Skippers, just outplayed Afghanistan.

Afghanistan gave an easy but decent target of 273 in front of India’s mammoth batting lineup, but Rohit Sharma was on song and started off very fluently, reaching his 31st ODI ton and his 7th in World Cups. He scored 131 runs with the help of 16 fours and skyrocketing sixes.

From the very first ball, Rohit Sharma looked to attack the bowlers; he was running at a different pace and looked in a destructive mood. This was his 7th ton in the history of World Cups.

The partnership between Rohit Sharma and Indian Kishan very much sealed the match for India.

Afghanistan never looked in control while defending a small target on the batting strip of Arun Jaitley Stadium. Indian openers took full advantage of the run fest; they shared a match-winning partnership of 156 in just 19 overs and almost sealed the game for India. Ishan Kishan scored 47 runs in the partnership with a strike rate of 100, and Rohit Sharma scored with great fluency.

Virat Kohli also helped with his beautifully crafted half century.

When Ishan Kishan got out, India still had some work to do and build a partnership, but India’s best batsman, Virat Kohli, did that pretty well, crafted a needed-stand with the skipper, and scored a half century to compliment his master inning against Australia.

Review of the match

Afghan young openers started off the inning nicely while batting first on the batting track; they looked very good against quality bowling, but Indian prime bowler Jasprit Bumrah broke the stand. Afghanistan lost wickets in quick intervals and were on the backfoot.

Hashmatullah Shahidi (82) and Azmatullah Omarzai (62) had a supporting stand to reach a total of 272.

While giving chase to a small total India had a quick start from centurion Rohit Sharma; he attacked every bowler on his way. Ishan Kishan looked a bit slow at the start but got his rhythm back later on. Rohit Sharma completed his 7th ton in the World Cup, and this was his first in the ICC World Cup 2023. Virat Kohli also scored a half-century in the run chase to make it easier. India won the match with eight wickets in hand. Rohit Sharma was also picked player of the match for his brilliance in the match.
